Good infrastructure is invisible. Bad infrastructure is a headline.

Nobody notices a well-run network, a properly patched server estate or a cloud migration that goes to plan. What gets noticed is downtime, a breach, or a project that stalls because the wrong person was hired to lead it. By then, the cost is already measured in more than money.

Gravitas specialises in IT infrastructure recruitment across Germany. We place engineers, architects and consultants who keep organisations running - across cloud, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity and information security, ITSM and systems administration. From permanent teams to contractors for time-critical projects, we cover both.

IT Infrastructure <b>recruitment that delivers </b>

Gravitas consultants specialise in one niche area of the technology sector. This means when you partner with us, you get a market expert who is up to date with the current trends, skills and technologies underpinning IT infrastructure. Our consultants then focus their knowledge to be industry specific: Cybersecurity, Information Security, Cloud & Infrastructure, ITSM and Systems Administration.

We know IT infrastructure is too important to fail. A network outage stops a business trading, which is why placing the right person with the right skills first time matters so much. Infrastructure sits underneath every other technology investment a business makes, which means the people responsible for it carry more risk, and more responsibility, than their job titles often suggest.

That is why infrastructure hiring deserves more scrutiny than it typically gets. A generalist recruiter can source a CV that mentions the right technologies without always checking for the right level of detailed execution. Our specialist consultants know IT infrastructure inside and out - they have the technical understanding to know whether a candidate has the skills to be trusted with your implementation.

In practice, that means every candidate we put forward has already been technically screened by a consultant who know the market specifics inside and out, going beyond job titles & certifications.  We have the capability to fill urgent job requirements within in 2 days and a 96% fill rate with our exclusive partnerships and 77% in a preferred supplier list partnership capacity.

As you know, IT infrastructure covers a broad and technically varied set of disciplines. Gravitas recruits across the full range, including:

  • Infrastructure Engineers - servers, storage, virtualisation and the core systems that everything else depends on.
  • Network Engineers - design, configuration and management of networks, from LAN and WAN to SD-WAN and enterprise connectivity.
  • Cloud Engineers & Architects - Microsoft Azure, AWS and Google Cloud Platform; migration, cost optimisation and cloud-native architecture.
  • Systems Administrators - day-to-day management, patching, monitoring and support of server and workstation environments.
  • Security Engineers & Consultants - protecting infrastructure against cyberattack; firewalls, endpoint protection, identity and access management.
  • DevOps & Platform Engineers - automation, infrastructure as code and the bridge between infrastructure and software delivery.
  • IT Support & Service Desk - first, second and third-line support; the frontline of infrastructure reliability from a user's perspective.
  • Infrastructure Project Managers - delivery leadership for migrations, upgrades and infrastructure transformation programmes.
  • Heads of Infrastructure & IT Leadership - strategic ownership of infrastructure investment, resilience and roadmap

Gravitas works with organisations building and maintaining their infrastructure in-house, at every stage of their journey: enterprises managing complex hybrid estates, scale-ups building out their technology function, 0-1 hiring strategies, and organisations mid-way through cloud migration or infrastructure modernisation.

In Germany specifically, that often means infrastructure built to the resilience and compliance standards financial services and energy sector employers expect, rather than a generic estate. For permanent hires, the conversation centres on team structure, technical culture and long-term capability, not just individual skillsets. For contract hiring, it shifts toward time sensitivity, speed of delivery and niche-skill coverage, balanced within sourcing built for pace.

We typically deliver a shortlist within days for roles with strong network coverage; niche or senior positions take longer, depending on specialism, seniority and how time-critical the requirement is. We're upfront about realistic timeframes rather than promising a speed we can't deliver.

For a full picture of how we work, see our permanent recruitment and contract hiring pages.

Infrastructure sits underneath every technology-dependent organisation, and in Germany that plays out most clearly across the following sectors:

  • Financial services and fintech - infrastructure resilience and security are non-negotiable given the regulatory and reputational stakes involved.
  • Energy and utilities - critical national infrastructure with demanding uptime and security requirements, often running complex hybrid and legacy environments.
  • Industrial and engineering automation - the networks, servers and security infrastructure underpinning Germany's manufacturing and industrial base, where operational technology and traditional IT increasingly depend on each other.
  • Public sector - government and local authority infrastructure programmes, often involving cloud migration and legacy modernisation at scale.
  • Managed service providers and outsourcing partners - infrastructure talent to resource client delivery across all the above sectors

A specialist IT infrastructure recruitment agency benefits employers through deeper technical vetting, sector-specific networks and market intelligence that generalist recruiters can't match. The stakes justify it: infrastructure roles carry real operational risk, and the wrong hire doesn't just underperform - they can be the reason a system goes down, a project stalls or a security gap goes unnoticed.

  • Technical fluency in sourcing - our consultants understand the difference between someone who has touched a technology and someone who has genuinely owned it in production. That distinction matters enormously in infrastructure.
  • Assessment before shortlist - we assess technical depth, hands-on experience and judgement before a candidate reaches you. We do the first-pass filtering, so you don't have to.
  • Market intelligence you can use - live salary and day-rate benchmarks, honest availability timelines and a realistic view of what your brief will attract in the current market.
  • Deep candidate networks - relationships with infrastructure professionals built over years. We find people who are not actively job-hunting and not visible on job boards.
  • Permanent and contract expertise - whether you need a long-term infrastructure hire or a specialist contractor for a defined statement of work, we work across both and understand the commercial structure and contractor status considerations of each, including Germany's framework for false self-employment (Scheinselbstständigkeit).
  • Sector-aware recruitment - we understand how infrastructure requirements differ between a fintech's regulatory environment and an energy provider's complex hybrid estate. That context shapes the brief, the search and the shortlist.

 IT Infrastructure <b>Market intelligence: </b>

Infrastructure has changed substantially over the past decade, and the technologies employers ask us to recruit against reflect that shift. The core areas we see most consistently in the current IT Infrastructure landscape are:

The major cloud platforms - AWS, Azure and GCP - are all present in the German market, and most infrastructure roles now assume at least working cloud fluency. Germany's relationship with the hyperscalers is more nuanced than adoption alone suggests; digital sovereignty is a live consideration here in a way it isn't in every market, and infrastructure candidates who understand data residency and EU cloud alternatives alongside the major hyperscalers stand out. In practice, hybrid is the norm rather than the exception: 64% of German companies run private cloud, 53% run public cloud, and over a third run genuine hybrid or multi-cloud setups, so the strongest candidates to look for are those who understand on-site and cloud infrastructure rather than just one.

On the networking side, enterprise environments and Cisco skills remain foundational, with software-defined networking becoming more common as businesses modernise ageing infrastructure. Security sits close behind: infrastructure is on the front line of cyberattack risk, so security-literate infrastructure professionals, not just dedicated security specialists, are increasingly expected across the discipline.

Automation is reshaping the discipline too. The line between infrastructure and DevOps continues to blur, and employers increasingly want infrastructure engineers who can automate rather than manually configure. Virtualisation platforms such as Nutanix and other hyperconverged infrastructure solutions are common in organisations managing private cloud environments alongside public cloud.

The infrastructure professionals in highest demand right now are rarely pure specialists in one legacy technology. They are engineers who can operate confidently across hybrid cloud environments while still holding the security and reliability discipline the role has always demanded.

German IT infrastructure and support salaries in 2026 vary widely by specialism, seniority and sector, in permanent (annual, gross) and contract (Tagessatz / day-rate) terms. These ranges are based on our current German IT salary and freelance-rate benchmarking data:

IT Support / Service Desk (1st–2nd line) - €32,000 to €47,000 permanent

Infrastructure Engineer (mid-level) - €48,000 to €68,000 permanent; €550 to €700 per day contract

Senior Infrastructure / Network Engineer - €65,000 to €85,000 permanent; €650 to €800 per day contract

Cloud Engineer / Cloud Architect - €62,000 to €120,000 permanent; €700 to €950 per day contract

Security Engineer / Consultant - €62,000 to €98,000 permanent; €650 to €900 per day contract

Head of Infrastructure / IT Infrastructure Manager - €85,000 to €110,000 permanent

Frankfurt-based roles in financial services and energy typically sit at the upper end of these ranges, reflecting the regulatory and uptime stakes involved. Cloud and security specialisms consistently command a premium over general infrastructure and support roles, reflecting both demand and the consequences of getting them wrong. NIS2 has quietly become one of the biggest drivers of infrastructure and security hiring in Germany, and it happened fast. The law took effect in December 2025 with no transition period, and it pulled a much wider range of companies into scope than the cybersecurity rules that came before it: mid-sized organisations with fifty employees or ten million euros in turnover, not just the large, obviously critical operators. Many of these companies have never been directly regulated on cybersecurity before, and they now have a hard registration deadline in March 2026 to work against.

What's changed isn't just paperwork. NIS2 makes cybersecurity a board-level responsibility rather than something IT quietly owns, with real personal liability for executives who don't have proper risk management in place. That's pushing companies to formalise security as its own function, usually with a named CISO or security board, rather than treating it as one more thing the infrastructure team handles alongside everything else.

For infrastructure and security hiring specifically, that's created pressure in two places at once: senior leadership capacity to own the governance side, and engineers who can work inside a compliance-aware environment (where incident response, supply-chain security and audit-ready evidence are now part of the day job rather than an additional skill). The deadline is fixed, which means this isn't a slow-building trend companies can get to eventually, it's a resourcing need with a clock attached, often landing on teams building this capability for the first time. It's also exactly the kind of hire where knowing whether a candidate has operated inside a formal incident reporting framework, rather than just read about one, is the question that matters most – that’s where a specialist recruiter comes in, to help you screen your candidate to get what you need.
